ABOUT NIT DURGAPUR : N.I.T. Durgapur spread over 187 acres of land and formerly known as R.E.C. Durgapur, is centrally funded Institution by the Govt. of India for imparting technical education and promoting research in emerging disciplines. The Institute has sufficient infrastructures to conduct the short term training programme. The Institute has entered into a student-faculty exchange programme with european organization for nuclear research (CERN, Geneva). The Institute, situated in the midst of the industrial city Durgapur, surrounded by a large number of industries and technical colleges, water resources structures, having efficient management of industrial, municipal and domestic waste for environmental management has emerged as a centre of research and development in fields of engineering and technology. N.I.T. Durgapur has a formal network with N.I.T. Silchar, N.I.T. Jamshedpur, Kalyani Government Engineering College, Kalyani, Asansol Engineering College, Asansol. The annual undergraduate intake is about 550. Besides offering B. tech. courses in most of the classical and emerging fields of engineering, the institute also offers MBA and MCA courses in addition to M. tech. courses. The Institute also offers research facilities leading to Ph.D. degree. Durgapur is situated at a distance of 158 km north-west of Kolkata on the Howrah-Delhi main railway route. The NH-2 (Grand Trunk Road) connects it with various places of the country. The Institute campus is only 6 Km away from the Durgapur Railway Station.The nearest airport is the International Airport at Kolkata.
