Brig. Amardeep Singh Nijjar is an alumnus of prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadakwasla where he also completed his graduation under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. After commissioning into Infantry (4thGorkha Rifles) from the Indian Military Academy in December 1981, he has had varied experience of serving in different environments and conditions including High Altitude Areas of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Counter Insurgency operations in North East and Jammu & Kashmir.
He has qualified with excellent grades on most mandatory and other courses including Commando Course, Intelligence Staff Officers’ Course, Transport Management Course, Junior and Senior Command courses. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College Course (DSSC) Wellington and earned his post-graduation M.Sc Military Science from Madras University, Chennai.
He has held various positions of great responsibility including the General Staff Officer-2 in a Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Sector Headquarters, Deputy Commander, again in RR, Col Quartermaster in Karnataka & Kerala Sub area at Bengaluru, Brigadier General Staff Training & Staff Duties in South Western Command at Jaipur and just a few months before joining as Registrar at NIT Durgapur he was the Station Commander at Panagarh Military Station responsible for the administration of a huge military station Spreading 9000 acres and having numerous military units.
He has commanded an infantry battalion in the Eastern sector on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) opposite China and an Infantry Brigade in the Western Sector Opposite Pakistan.
He has been awarded with the chief of Army Staff Commendation twice, the latest being for his services as Station Commander, Panagarh in Jan’2015.
He is presently pursuing his MBA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.
